Surrogate Mothers: What to Expect

What are the Surrogate Steps for Surrogate Mothers?

Step One: You have made the decision to become a Surrogate Mother with the support of friends and family. Once you have decided that you would like to be a Surrogate Mother, submit a Gestational Carrier Application to Surrogate Steps. Surrogate Steps will determine your eligibility and invite you to complete a more detailed Gestational Carrier Application.
Step Two:   It is important that you understand what your Surrogacy Journey entails, emotionally, medically and legally. Surrogate Steps Specialists will discuss the process with you and provide you with information and resources to prepare you for your journey as a Surrogate Mother.  Surrogate Steps Specialists are always available to answer any questions you may have throughout your surrogacy journey.
Step Three:  Surrogate Steps Specialists will keep you informed about Intended Parents who are interested in your profile.  Surrogate Steps Specialists will review with you profiles of Intended Parents and you will choose a family that you feel comfortable with.
Step Four:  Surrogate Steps Specialists will arrange a meeting with you and  the Intended Parents.
Step Five: Surrogate Mothers will complete various medical, mental and background screenings.
Step Six:  Once the match is successful, you and the Intended Parents will have to sign a contract called a Gestational Carrier Agreement.Surrogate Steps Specialists will assist you to locate an independent attorney experienced in the area of reproductive law to represent you in this process.
Step Seven: Surrogate Mothers will begin taking medication and proceed with the Embryo Transfer.
Step Eight: The pregnancy will be confirmed & Baby will have his or her First Ultrasound!Starting approximately 10 days after the Embryo Transfer you will undergo blood tests to confirm a pregnancy. After pregnancy is confirmed and approximately 4 weeks after the Embryo Transfer, you will schedule the baby’s first ultrasound and confirm a heartbeat.Baby’s first ultrasound is a very emotional step for you and the Intended Parents.    And after your ultrasound is confirmed, you will begin receiving compensation based on the terms in your Gestational Carrier Contract.
Step Nine:  Enjoy your pregnancy and the surrogacy journey! Surrogate Steps will continue to guide you throughout your pregnancy every step of the way to ensure that you are receiving all of the support that you need.Depending on the terms of your Gestational Carrier Agreement, the Intended Parents may go with you to doctor visits and ultrasound appointments.
Step Ten: Baby is here! Everyone will prepare for the baby’s arrival. The most amazing moment that everyone has been waiting for is finally here with the arrival of the baby. You will present the Intended Parents with their Baby and change their lives forever!  This is a very emotional moment for the Intended Parents, who will be welcoming the baby into their family.The Intended Parents will be able to spend time in the hospital with their baby. Again, depending on the terms of your Agreement, the Intended Parents, you will also have some time with the baby and an opportunity to introduce the baby to your family. Also depending on what was agreed to in your Gestational Carrier Agreement, you may start pumping breast milk for the baby so that the Intended Parents may feed their baby breast milk.

Once the baby is ready to be discharged from the hospital, the Intended Parents will take the baby to his or her new home!

The Intended Parents will forever be grateful to you for helping them build their family. After delivery of the baby, you will receive your final compensation as a Surrogate Mother.
