Erin has been a Journey Coordinator with Surrogate Steps since 2022. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Wellness and Alternative Medicine and a Master’s in Business Administration.

Erin has been a surrogate twice before and brings with her a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience, and empathy.  Erin communicates daily with our surrogates, intended parents, and monitoring and fertility clinics to ensure that every step of their surrogacy journey has been completed as smoothly as possible.

Erin loves that her coworkers are such a close-knit team and finds helping create families incredibly rewarding. In her free time, Erin can be found working on her 40-acre property with her husband and children, working with their horse and goat, hiking or reading a good novel.

Q & A with Erin

Q: Why Did You (Erin) Become a Surrogate?

A: I wanted to help someone who was struggling to become a parent be able to make that dream come true; I truly love pregnancy but wasn’t at a place in my life where I wanted to add to my own family; I always thought surrogacy was such a beautiful gift to be able to give.

Q: In just a few sentences, describe what being a surrogate has meant in your life?

A: Being a surrogate has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. It has given me the chance to be a part of something immensely special with two families and the amazing feeling of seeing their faces the moment they met their babies is something I cannot even put into words.

Q: What piece of advice (or top 3 pieces of advice) would you give to someone who is becoming a surrogate?

A: Being a surrogate is not for the faint of heart: there will be ups and downs and you have to be mentally and emotionally prepared for the good and the disappointing news. Do NOT do this for the money: sure, the compensation is a plus, but it is not a reason to enter into this process; doing so is not fair to yourself or to the parents.

It can be the most rewarding and incredible experience. Be honest with yourself, with your agency, with your Intended Parents; be communicative and responsive and remember that this is a highly emotional and very personal journey that you’ve been entrusted with.

Q: What piece of advice (or top 3 pieces of advice) would you give to someone who is growing their own family through surrogacy?

A: Know that we are going to treat this pregnancy as if it were one of our own. Think about anything you might have a question about or anything you may have a strong opinion on (things like vaccines or types of food you would want your surrogate to avoid). We would rather you ask if we’re okay avoiding a certain food at the beginning than demand a food journal be kept halfway through a pregnancy. We want this to be as smooth and stress-free for you as possible. We understand that this process is very personal and very emotional, and we are on your team.
