Kody Keirsey is the Intake Coordinator at Surrogate Steps and the friendly, compassionate voice guiding women through the very first steps of their surrogacy journey. Based in Yuba City, California, Kody helps prospective surrogates understand the process, answers their questions, and supports them as they complete their initial application.

As a former surrogate herself, Kody brings deep empathy and firsthand understanding to every conversation. Her background in Early Childhood Development strengthens her ability to connect with surrogates and intended parents alike, offering both knowledge and care in equal measure.

Kody’s own surrogacy experience was life-changing—teaching her resilience, selflessness, and the profound power of helping others become parents. She loves being part of a team that turns dreams of parenthood into reality and finds joy in building genuine connections along the way.

Outside of work, Kody enjoys spending time with her family, singing, spending time in nature, and practicing grounding activities that help her stay centered and compassionate in her work every day.

Q & A with Kody

Q: Why Did You (Kody) Become a Surrogate?

A: I wanted to help another family experience parenthood. I loved being pregnant and wanted to be part of something bigger than myself. Knowing that I could give someone else the chance to have a family was the ultimate motivation.

Q: In just a few sentences, describe what being a surrogate has meant in your life.

A: It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Seeing the parents’ faces light up when they met their little girl was incredible. We became so close that we now consider each other family, and that connection is something I will always cherish.

Q: What piece of advice (or top 3 pieces of advice) would you give to someone who is becoming a surrogate?

A: Take care of yourself physically and emotionally, communicate openly with your intended parents, and enjoy the journey. Keep healthy emotional boundaries and remember that your compassion is changing someone’s life.

Q: What piece of advice (or top 3 pieces of advice) would you give to someone who is growing their own family through surrogacy?

A: Be patient and kind—to yourself, your surrogate, and the process. Trust your surrogate, communicate openly, and remember that this journey is built on respect, gratitude, and shared hope.
